The Tamil Memorial Foundation is a coalition of Canadian organizations committed to commemorating and educating about the Tamils from the island of Sri Lanka, their history, culture, aspirations, and the sacrifices made by our ancestors in the long march for freedom, human rights, and self-determination. Collaborating closely with the Tamil community, the Tamil Memorial Foundation serves as the authentic voice of grassroots Tamils, championing their genuine aspirations without any political affiliations.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support grassroots organizations striving to preserve and promote Tamil culture, history, language, and the principles underlying the time-tested Tamil lifestyle. Our projects focus on raising awareness and understanding of the Tamil identity, particularly among Tamils from Eelam (present-day Sri Lanka). We aim to highlight the values we uphold, our aspirations, the untold stories of the Tamil Diaspora from Eelam, our indigenous history in Eelam, the rise and fall of our kingdoms, the narrative of becoming a minority in our homeland, the events leading to armed struggle, the war, ongoing peace efforts, the multifaceted challenges our people face back home, including the poignant issue of genocide, and our cherished national symbols and identity.

Our Vision

Our vision is to seamlessly integrate future generations into diverse societies while fostering a deep sense of pride in their origins. We strive to preserve the brave history, the richness of our language, arts, and the time-honored science of the Tamil lifestyle passed down by our ancestors. By creating platforms for learning and sharing our wealth of Tamil scriptures, literature, arts, and science, we aim to benefit all. We aspire for global citizens, like us today, to continue living with the highest discipline practiced by our ancestors, to cherish and protect nature, respect fellow citizens, and contribute toward sustainability, improvement, and peace in the world.
